10 Musicians Whose Careers Were Destroyed By Just One Album
7. & Then Boom — Iglu and Hartly
Proof that often times genius goes unappreciated in its own time, & Then Boom was the lone full length studio album to come from Violent and Young scribes/ forgotten pop rock icons Iglu and Hartly.
The debut album of the Beastie Boys meets ABBA frat pop heroes, this 2008 effort came hot on the heels of their one hit wonder success with the anthemic effort In This City.
Fusing the waning subgenre of rap rock’s corny humour and relentless energy with glam pop’s glittery production and ever-present synths, the resultant record was shamelessly goofy, over-the-top pop. Filled with dreamy, high energy hits like DayGlo and the hilariously sincere likes of Out There, the album saw the outfit combine the Red Hot Chili Peppers' vibrant genre-mashing with the dumb fun attitude of fellow frat-rockers 3Oh!3.
And critics f***ing hated it, to the point that scathing reviews put a stopper on the band’s rise. The album is still an underrated classic of course, but try telling that to the people pushing Kasabian as the sound of the future circa 2008.
