10 New Bands That Prove Rock Isn't Dead
4. Venom Prison
Fronted Russian-born former Wolf Down frontwoman Larissa Stupar, Venom Prison deliver an unrelenting barrage of noise coupled with lyrics that'd make even the most savvy goregrind fan blush ("You think you’re strong? I will hear you cry, when I amputate your genitalia").
As well as challenging war and politics, Stupar and co. are the latest act to face up to sexism and misogyny in alternative music, standing up for their music by cancelling their tour with Polish tech death metal giants Decapitated following accusations levelled towards the band.
This fight for feminism is a worthwhile one though as Noisey points out, if these lyrics were spoken by a man, no one would really bat an eye, but with the genders swapped, the attention shifts. Stupar comments on this saying "We had an introductory piece about us in Metal Hammer and the Facebook comments… you just shake your head. Why are people wasting their life commenting sh*t like that, calling me 'sugar t*ts' and telling me to bend over?"
The right people are taking note of Venom Prison though, as they have just finished a tour with Trap Them and head into the new year supporting Power Trip, Code Orange and Trivium.
