10 Noughties Pop Songs You'd Forgotten You Loved

5. Tony Christie ft. Peter Kay - "Is This The Way To Amarillo?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqLLDZvbG-U America - The Land of The Free - is often a muse for artists who want to create a big-hitting song. Tony Christie did just that in 1971 with 'Is This The Way To Amarillo'. Eager to capitalise on his (only) successful song, he released it to a second generation of pop-hungry kids in 2005, and to even more rabid crowds. Indeed, it became the third most lucrative song of the decade, with over 1.2 million copies sold. Collaborating with Peter Kay can't be considered the most orthodox of managerial decisions musically, but Christie has him to thank for the winning combination that entranced the nation (and the continent). The song describes the journey of a man across America to find his love - and his hopes for the future - in the city of Amarillo. That, in his own words, is "where ma baby's at."
