10 One-Hit Wonder Bands From The 90s That Still Rock

9. Marcy Playground

http://youtu.be/-KT-r2vHeMM Biggest Hit: Sex and Candy (1997) Marcy Playground was your typical alt-rock flash-in-the-pan, a melancholic single only propelling them into the shadow of Nirvana, an inevitable fate for grunge influenced bands in the late 90s. They were just a tad too late to the party, at a time when mainstream rock radio was looking for acoustic ballads to replace the fuzzy guitar riffs of the grunge era. While "Sex and Candy" found a perfect middle ground, their other, more uptempo singles failed to catch on. ("Saint Joe on the School Bus" is undoubtedly the most overlooked would-be hit of the following year.) Just because they were late to the party, does that mean they had to leave it early? Of course not. Marcy Playground has kept doing there thing well into the 21st century, largely because they receive so much support from die-hard fans. In fact, they asked fans from around the world to remix their 2009 album Leaving Wonderland, then chose their favorite thirteen and put them on an official album, Indaba Remixes from Wonderland. Their output in recent years has bested "Sex and Candy" in every imaginable way. That's not to say the hit single isn't a good song, just that it falls far below the rest of Marcy Playground's oeuvre. Proof They Still Rock: Star Baby (2009) http://youtu.be/2P7FmN-_zmg
