10 One-Hit Wonder Bands From The 90s That Still Rock

3. Fastball

http://youtu.be/b0wfu3tOrtQ Biggest Hit: The Way (1998) Doomed to forever be confused with like-minded peers Semisonic (who did "Closing Time"), Fastball's monster hit "The Way" had a kind of retro cool that listeners couldn't get enough of in the 90s. But rather than aim for the kitschiness of big band or swing music (looking at you, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy), they went all in with a 70s classic rock approach, a refreshing type of nostalgia for the era. Indebted more to Elvis Costello than The Replacements, (as most of their peers were), Fastball wouldn't sound out of place in any decade. So it's too bad that their playful, confident brand of rock faded from public consciousness so quickly. Fastball technically had another hit single, "Out of My Head," a year later, but it didn't have the lasting effects of "The Way" and politely exited the charts without much fuss. Fastball has quietly maintained a sporadic output ever since, popping out an album without fanfare every few years. They haven't changed their formula much, which is okay, because their formula is pretty timeless. The band's craft has gotten a little better, their sound a little tighter, and their lyrics a little more on-the-nose. Really, they're a 90s pop-rock band who should be all over the radio in 2014. Maybe there's still time to make that happen? Proof They Still Rock: Love Comes in Waves (2013) http://youtu.be/UKZn6hg7Iq0
