10 One-Hit Wonders Who Deserved A Second Hit

8. Spacehog

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDkhl-CgETg The 90s alt-rockers from New York scored big with their spacey brand of bombastic rock. With the exception of some mildly fuzzy guitar riffs, Spacehog was about as far away from the grunge sound that you could get in the mid-90s, yet they were still tacitly tied to the post-grunge genre thanks to their one big hit, "In the Meantime." They did have at least one thing in common with Nirvana, though: Both bands were heavily influenced by David Bowie and The Beatles. (Then again...aren't all bands?) The rest of Spacehog's debut album, Resident Alien, sounds like a Bowie tribute album funneled through a power pop sensibility. It was basically a collection of Ziggy-inspired party music. It was rad as hell. Unfortunately, the band's next two singles would place the emphasis squarely on the alt-rock side of their sound, and while "Cruel to Be Kind" (confusingly not a cover) and "Space Is the Place" are decent rockers, it doesn't quite capture their true essence. But 1998's "Mungo City" had much more of a glam-rock bent...and pretty much fell on its face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Rwvwu3RrE
