https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KT-r2vHeMM Marcy Playground enjoyed some very brief success as a post-grunge also-ran, releasing the melancholic single "Sex and Candy," which was just cheeky enough to stand out from their peers' sludgy offerings. But they quickly faded away, with the popularity of their hit single often attributed to its moderately scandalous subject matter. But that's simply not accurate or fair. Because Marcy Playground were incredibly adept at writing sharp-edged, fuzzily melodic tunes. It just so happens they came along at a time that was more focused on soaring balladry than tightly-crafted rock songs. In a different era, songs like "Saint Joe on the School Bus" (from their debut album) and "Bye Bye" (from their follow-up, Shapeshifter) would have been inescapable hits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPWZZ4QaSQ0
