7. Lady Gaga
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN90LylMdFg Whilst she may not sound at all like Rob Zombie, Lady Gaga shares a similar work ethic to him, making sure that every moment of her show is intensely planned, rehearsed, synchronised, and perfected. For her latest tour, ArtRave: The ArtPop Ball, she had a press launch in Brooklyn, NY, where she revealed the world's 'first flying dress', introduced works from a wide range of artists, and announced her plans to perform in space in 2015. Quite the launch, one that would only be fitting for a woman who spent considerable time performing inside a big egg. Truthfully, there's just so much that goes on at a Gaga show that it certainly overshadows the (rapidly worsening) music she makes, and it certainly won't do justice to talk about it here. After emerging from underneath the stage wearing a golden leotard with angel wings, she actually tops it with a vast amount of ludicrous kitsch, including (but not limited to) seahorse-shaped keytars, stuffed animal-filled cannons, inflatable flowers, and even an onstage costume change (perhaps the most artful statement a popstar could make). There are thematic influences from as diverse film titles as Wizard of Oz, West Side Story and Metropolis, whilst props like flame-shooting bras, tricycles, and yes - inflatable vaginas (which Gaga emerges from, of course) are commonplace throughout this and other tours. There's just so much camaraderie on offer that it's hard not to love the show, and for all her detractors, there are just as many of her 'Little Monsters' that love every single minute of a Gaga live experience.
