10 Overly Hated Musicians In Rock History

3. Lars Ulrich - Metallica

When talking about the greatest metal bands of all time, including Metallica in that conversation can get a bit tricky.

While albums like Master of Puppets and The Black Album make them strong contenders for some of the greatest players in the industry, blatant missteps like St. Anger have sent them to the bargain bins more than a few times. Whereas James Hetfield might be the most approachable member of the group though, Lars Ulrich has built up a reputation for everything wrong about Metallica.

Across every social media platform, Ulrich has been Public Enemy #1 in the metal community, from his borderline incompetence in his later years on the live stage to going on a manhunt against piracy in the early '00s with Napster. That's not the whole story though. In fact, we might not be giving Lars enough credit.

Throughout Metallica's history, Lars was the one known to keep everything intact, from the business side of things to actually arranging the songs. While some may question why Lars has a songwriting credit on every Metallica track, his attention to detail has structured classic songs into what they are today, with the arrangement of Enter Sandman being almost entirely his vision.

Lars is definitely not as agile as he once was, but the endurance of Metallica as a collective unit is almost solely because of him.
