10 Overrated Rock Music Acts Of The 2010s

8. YUNGBLUD

YUNGBLUD (Dominic Richard Harrison) released his first single back in 2017 and it was a promising insight into what the new face of British rock might be. Although the single King Charles wore its influences on its sleeve, there was enough about Harrison to keep you interested.

The Yorkshire born singer was never going to get away from Alex Turner comparisons, singing in his distinctly northern English accent. And, although his early songs felt like they were lifted from Arctic Monkeys B-sides, the references to Madness and Jamie T left you thinking this guy had enough range in his influences to have potential. Throw on a My Chemical Romance aesthetic and you might just be onto something...

However, the release of his 2018 album made it clear the record label dialled all the things that made him unique up to 11, resulting in a look and a sound that felt contrived. Rather than Harrison's music feeling innovative, it felt like he was leaning on his influences rather than building on them.

Having said that, the guy certainly has an allure, he hasn't shied away from talking about mental illness and the over medication of kids, and he fights the good fight when it comes to inclusivity.

The jury is certainly still out on this guy. He's got a fan bass, he's got talent and he's got age on his side.
