10 Overrated Rock Music Acts Of The 2010s

2. Tame Impala

It's almost painful to come to this conclusion, but Tame Impala are woefully overrated.

Back in the early 2010s, stumbling across their first few records, Innerspeaker and Lonerism, gave you hope that there was still new and exciting territory for rock music to explore. It was a place full of distorted guitar riffs, nestled comfortably next to psychedelic synth melodies and Kevin Parker's dreamy vocals.

But over the decade the sound became derivative of itself, and the hard psychedelic guitar was slowly phased out in favour of yet more synth sounds. Parker has earned his place in the halls of fabled rock musicians, his influence over the last decade can not be understated, but his true genius seems to have gotten lost in a swirling mess of effects pedals.

If you felt like Tame Impala departed from the early psychedelic rock sound too early, then you might find solace in listening to Parker's work with Mink Muscle Creek. It was his psych rock band before the Tame Impala thing took centre stage.

If, however, you're still an avid fan of Impala, just have the self awareness to know there is nothing more infuriating than being told "Tame Impala are a musical project and not actually a band". We all know.
