10 Overshadowed Albums By Famous Musicians
4. Metallica - ...And Justice For All
Following the untimely death of Cliff Burton, many wondered what would become of San Francisco trash outfit Metallica. Having just released a genuine classic in the form of 'Master Of Puppets' that captured both the band's crushing heaviness and their penchant for unspoiled delicacy amid the carnage, it's an album that still needs to be heard in full in order to be comprehended.
However, the LP that would follow in its wake and in that of their iconic bassist's premature demise is an album which has aged far better than many critics were willing to give it credit for. A strange and unsettling time for the band both creatively and personally, '... And Justice For All' is the band's first record with Jason Newsted and the final album of their thrash period before the more commercialised appetites of the equally lauded Black Album.
Dwarfed by the fact that is sandwiched by two of the finest metal albums ever committed to tape, 'And Justice For All...' pales by comparison but still deserves both attention and respect for its place in the Metallica catalogue. An exercise in unmatched technical prowess within their catalogue, the sound of 'Blackened', 'Dyers Eve' 'Eye Of The Beholder' and its title track is the manifestation of the band's discontent channeled into militaristic precision.
'One' is easily its most well known and celebrated accomplishment which remains a live favourite to this day although any fan would be doing themselves a disservice by overlooking 'Harvester Of Sorrow' or 'The Frayed Ends Of Sanity.'
