7. Elastica - Elastica & The Bends - Radiohead
Back to the 90s now, and to two bands who were emblematic of the wave of indie and Britpop that was taking the country by storm.
After their first album, Pablo Honey, failed to catch light, Radiohead went back to the studio and started work on what many consider their true debut.
This was The Bends, the first Radiohead album to feature the cryptic messages and production trickery the band would become known for. Through songs like Fake Plastic Trees, My Iron Lung, and Street Spirit (Fade Out), the group became flagbearers for the British alternative music scene; a status they still enjoy today.
Though not nearly as famous or popular as their album birthday buddies, Elastic were still big players in mid-90s British music. Their self-titled debut, released on March 13th 1995 (the same day as The Bends), and gave them their biggest ever hit, Connection.
A much-needed female voice in a male-dominated landscape, Elastica represented something different and would surely go on to do great things.
What's that? They released one more album and then broke up? Oh.
