10 Pairs Of Famous Rock Albums That Came Out On The Same Day

2. Superunknown - Soundgarden & The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails

If you were feeling particularly sorry for yourself on March 8th 1994, then you had two very strong options with which to soundtrack your melancholy.

One was the fourth offering from Chris Cornell and Soundgarden, the follow-up to their highly-profitable 1991 album, Badmotorfinger. By the end of the day, no one was talking about that anymore, because Superunknown had blown it out of the water.

Well-constructed melodies, near-poetic lyrics, and Cornell's extraordinary singing ability all combined to make this one of the great 90s albums, regardless of genre. The same label can also be applied to another album that was born on March 8th; Nine Inch Nails' magnum opus, The Downward Spiral.

Trent Reznor's second release under the NIN guise proved that he was one of the best musical minds on the planet. It was chockful of dark, frightening, and emotionally extreme sounds and words, perfectly capturing the morbid cloud that hung over so much of the nation's youth at the time.

One one day in 1994, you could have heard Closer, Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, and Hurt for the very first time one after another.

What a time to be alive.
