10 Perfect 1960s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

5. Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys

As time has passed in rock history, the Beach Boys' early work has felt a little too innocent for its own good. Although Mike Love has been responsible for the kind of good time spirit of the band, making an entire career out of the same love songs about surfing and driving cars wasn't going to get into the history books. If you wanted to compete with the big guns, you had to take advantage of the genius you had in front of you.

Being inspired by the Beatles' Rubber Soul, Brian Wilson set out to make one of the best albums he could possibly create, and delivered a masterpiece with Pet Sounds. While all of these songs have the same kind of construction that you'd find in a normal Beach Boys song, the mood is definitely a lot more introspective, looking to the sour side of love and deconstructing the idea of intimacy between two people.

With the Wrecking Crew at his disposal, this is the sound of Wilson in the studio using every instrument he can to create the most beautiful songs ever written, from the joy of Wouldn't It Be Nice to the devotion of God Only Knows. Mike Love: this is how you do it. Love isn't all about teen romance. Love can be hard to deal with sometimes, and it's about time that Brian spoke up about it.
