10 Perfect 1960s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

2. The Doors - The Doors

Once the psychedelic wave of rock and roll kicked in, it felt like all of our collective worries just started to fade away. Since all we needed to do was tune in and drop out, the sounds of California rock felt like there was nothing else that we needed to worry about for the rest of our lives. Psychedelia does have a dark side though, and Jim Morrison spent time dissecting it on the Doors' debut record.

That's not to say that Morrison was the only component that made the Doors work. From the beginning, they were always one of the stranger musical outfits to come out of the psychedelic scene, with no real bassist and having one of the main instruments be Ray Manzarak's organ. When you actually dug into the songs though, there was a lot more nuance going on, with Morrison's offbeat poetry blending seamlessly with the dark sounds of the organ, especially when going for horrific meditations like The End or Break On Through.

Instead of the idea of forgetting all of your commitments, this was the one album that warned us all to be aware of the dangers of everything going on around us. The mantra may have been All You Need is Love, but Morrison singing Light My Fire felt a little more raw. Move over, rock idols...the Lizard King had finally arrived.
