10 Perfect 1980s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
2. Purple Rain - Prince
As the MTV generation first started to get its sea legs, you couldn't mold a better fit for the visual side of music than Prince. Along with being one of the musical geniuses of the time, here was a guy who's songs could get the party moving for anyone who had a steady pulse. When he decided to go into the territory of movies though, that's when the real classics started to come out.
When compared to the other albums on this list, it almost seems unfair putting Purple Rain in just the rock category. From one song to the next, the Purple One practically pulls from any genre that he wants to, going from soft pillowy tenderness on songs like The Beautiful Ones to robotic funk on When Doves Cry to one of the greatest stadium rock anthems on the title track.
Most artists can't pull off something like this...let alone do them at this high a level. Just when you think the man can't top himself, he does on the next track, like ripping out your heartstrings on I Would Die 4 U to going back to his roots in Minneapolis on songs like Baby I'm a Star. While some people might have contentions with a handful of songs in the track listing, it's impossible not to have a good time from the minute that you turn on Let's Go Crazy.
