10 Perfect 2010s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
7. Forced Witness - Alex Cameron (2017)
With an artist like Alex Cameron, the devil is in the detail. On the surface he looks and sounds like an eccentric Aussie with a penchant for all things '80s. But, at the centre of his work, there's a refined and unrelenting display of musical skill. His sound draws from all the clichés of 1980s rock and synth-pop, but far from feeling unoriginal, you're left with a sense of nostalgic longing, for a time you might not have been alive for.
His second album delivered a focused collection of songs, that showcased his ability to come up with engaging melodies and unforgettable wordplay. His lyrics can be flippant, romantic, humorous and satirical, all in the same breath. Cameron doesn't seem to mind presenting himself in an exaggerated and at times deplorable way. He explores outdated notions of masculinity, modern ideas of romance, and satirical commentaries on modern living. He's able to write incredibly clever and hilarious lyrics that are both thought provoking and laughter inducing.
Forced Witness is contemporary take on '80s pop-rock which reveals more nuance with each new listen.
