10 Perfect 2010s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
6. Two Hands - Big Thief (2019)
Big Thief's fourth studio album is a mix of intricate and enchanting vocal melodies; reserved but highly skilled guitar hooks; and soothing rhythms that resign themselves to picturesque car journeys.
Adrianne Lenker has one of the most expressive voices in modern rock music: on the one hand, she can sing beautifully tender folk numbers, but she's also able to exhibit a simmering passion that's bubbling away below the surface. Her former husband and current lead guitar player, Buck Meek, is able to tap into melodies with a nibble dexterity that hears him skipping across the fret board with a reserved skill.
This is perhaps Big Thief's most focused album, if you're a fan of gentle indie rock then this is one to stick on. Although the band has a tendency to record more subdued takes, there are still a number of tracks that showcase their ability to go hard when the mood takes them. The single, Not - which recently garnered these guys a Grammy nomination - hears Lenker straddle the line between delicate folk singing and unbridled expression of rage, all while playing some mean guitar.
