10 Perfect 2010s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
5. Joy As An Act Of Resistance - IDLES (2018)
IDLES have been one of the more exciting acts to surface in recent years. They're a band who display their political and social beliefs proudly. Regardless of your inclinations, however, any rock fan will enjoy something these guys have to offer.
Their second album is exactly what it says on the tin. It's a swirling mess of high octane and infectiously catchy, post-punk songs, that will have you bouncing around the walls with a rebellious fever. But, the cathartic glee that comes with this high intensity brand of music, is accompanied by an overriding message that challenges some of the uglier facets of society.
It's a record soaked in style and substance. Once you're over the initial excitement of all the thrashing guitars and pounding drums, you'll be praising Joe Talbot's lyrics. With an impassioned rage he denounces the injustices of the government, rejects homophobic and racist sentiment and celebrates the UK's multiculturalism.
From the opening track, Colossus, the album is steeped in momentum. Even when the rumbling, high powered, motor engine isn't going at full speed, there's a healthy amount of revving going on. You're then led into the IDLES most celebrated track, Never Fight A Man With A Perm. By this point they've stomped their way into your psyche and won't let up until the albums finished.
