10 Perfect Albums That Artists Don't Want To Talk About
3. Be Here Now - Oasis
Every single record that Oasis put out in the '90s always seemed to be on some sort of upward trajectory. Even though they were still technically an indie band by the time they played Knebworth, they always held onto that mission to be the biggest band that the world had ever seen, with What's the Story Morning Glory becoming one of the greatest selling albums of the decade. While that stands as their crowning achievement, Noel Gallagher had his sights set on the album directly afterward.
Although Be Here Now is still the same Oasis that most people had already known, the overblown production behind the record was enough for the band to crash and burn in the process, going on a worldwide tour as superstars and losing almost all of their momentum in the process. As much as some songs may seem a bit overblown, you can still hear the Manchester boys shining through, like the Rolling Stones swagger of It's Gettin Better Man or going full on Beatles on tracks like Magic Pie and All Around the World.
Being one of the biggest fans of his own music though, Noel has been pretty sour on this record in hindsight, saying that the songs are all crap and blaming the fallout of the album on doing way too many drugs in the studio and no one keeping them in control. That's just half of the story though. If you look at how Britpop shaped up in the next few years though, chances are this is the moment where the entire genre jumped the shark.
