10 Perfect Albums That Will Make You Love Grunge Music
5. Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog
For all of the great music that has come from the city, there has also been a bit of a darkness running throughout the entire Seattle scene. As much as bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana might be fun to listen to every day, these are not happy songs by any stretch, and hearing that internal angst lashing out is almost cathartic when you're not in the right headspace. When that darkness actually became real though, one of the greatest supergroups ended up coming together for just the right reasons.
In the wake of Mother Love Bone's singer Andy Wood dying of a drug overdose, Chris Cornell wanted to make the most of a bad situation, asking to collaborate with the surviving members of the band and making an album that would act as a tribute to their fallen bandmate. With Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard onboard to make the record, Temple of the Dog worked on this around the same time that Pearl Jam was getting off the ground, with Eddie Vedder even guesting on the song Hunger Strike.
There's a lot of star power on here, but the attention is still on honoring the one who can't be here to share it, from the loving opener Say Hello 2 Heaven or the final moments of the song All Night Thing. There's no telling what Mother Love Bone would have become if Andy had lived, but this is definitely the best way to remember what he gave us.
