10 Perfect Albums That Will Make You Love Grunge Music

6. Live Through This - Hole

In the fallout of Kurt Cobain's death, people have had conflicting opinions on what to do about Courtney Love. Some may see her as a genuine artist who had to deal with becoming a widow right as her star was launching, and others see her as the Yoko Ono of her generation who led Kurt down a dark path and may or may not have led to his tragic end. While the conversation surrounding her persona can get toxic really quick, you can't take away the power of Live Through This.

As much as the album title couldn't have been timed worse, the actual material on here is excellent, with Love taking the same habits that came with her riot grrl roots and sprinkling in some of the alternative leanings that she picked up from her husband. For all of the candified melodies that are on songs like Miss World, this is still a raw and angry album, as Courtney shrieks out in pain on songs like Violet, with riffs that could go toe to toe with any of the big 4 of grunge on any day of the week.

Just like her husband though, Courtney had something to say, and tracks like Rock Star and Asking For It really get to the heart of what happens being both a woman in the rock scene along with being famous. Since a lot of these problems still surround some ladies in the music industry today, the industry actually could benefit from taking a few lessons from Ms. Love here.
