10 Perfect Albums That Will Make You Love Hair Metal Music
7. Permanent Vacation - Aerosmith
Most of the Sunset Strip scene could practically be renamed 'music that is derivative of Aerosmith.' While the Bad Boys From Boston were already being called a Rolling Stones rip off at the start of their career, their mix of boogie and blues based rock and roll made for something that reeked of rock and roll sleaze, which bands like Poison adopted wholeheartedly later down the road. Once they all cleaned up and brought the original band back together for Permanent Vacation though, they had the entire rock scene waiting at their feet.
With Steven Tyler and Joe Perry back in action, this album feels like they picked up right where they left off on an album like Draw the Line, taking the traditional rock tropes that they were doing back then and amplifying them even more for the MTV generation. While this is also the first time that they began working with outside songwriters, their collaborations on songs like Angel and Dude Looks Like a Lady made for some of the biggest smash hits of their career, giving them enough momentum to last beyond hair metal and move into the '90s with ease.
The rock and roll band that you all knew may have gone through a bit of a shakeup here, but this wasn't about coming together for the money anymore. These guys were the old guard of hair metal, and it was about time to show the rest of the kids on the Strip how to really get the job done.
