10 Perfect Alternative Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

6. Kid A - Radiohead (2000)

Radiohead changed the game with Kid A, not just in terms of what they represented as a band, but in terms of what mainstream, popular rock-inspired music could be. 1997 saw the band achieve huge success with OK Computer. But, the surge in guitar bands, trying to occupy the same space as Radiohead, gave them pause as to what their future would be. Their answer: Kid A.

This was the transitional album that saw Radiohead morph from a alt rock act, into an experimental post-rock band. The sounds on this album rest somewhere in between the electronic rhythms of Boards of Canada and the progressive electronic rock of Mogwai.

Although the band didn't do away with the guitar completely, it took a large step back. Jonny Greenwood still made his mark, however, but gave far more onus to the synthesiser. Thom Yorke began using his voice in ever more experimental ways. The lyrics became more sparse and his delivery added textured layers to the ambience of the songs, rather than dominating them.

If you are a regular on this site, then you're already fully aware of the praise steeped on this record. But it can not be understated.
