While Paul was the first member of the group to put out a solo record, John Lennon was always the one itching to break free of the Beatles' grasp. From the minute that he started to look beyond rock and roll, he was already making the kind of avant garde music with Yoko Ono that drove fans up the wall. He was still a songwriter though, and Instant Karma is probably the most Beatles sounding single he ever put out.

Considering what we would eventually hear on Plastic Ono Band, this seems almost too optimistic for the time, with John spreading the kind of positivity that had started to turn sour around the turn of the '60s.
