10 Perfect Beatles Songs From Their Solo Careers
3. All Things Must Pass - George Harrison
It's staggering to see how much George Harrison grew up throughout the Beatles' time in the spotlight. While he was always known as the Quiet One for most of his career, he had turned himself into a much more spiritual being in the years since, being more in tune with himself years down the line than most of his former bandmates could have hoped to be. And we should have seen this coming based on one of the first huge songs from his solo years.
As much as John was concerned with the lyrical content of his songs, George may have one upped him here on All Things Must Pass, taking the same kind of basic song structure and talking about how life has to take its course no matter what happens. Although most of the band only gave this one a passing glance during the final years of the group, this song would have sounded immaculate with George Martin's production. While Phil Spector definitely gave us the sound that we know today, hearing an understated string quartet from Martin would have been the real magic element that tied all of this together.
It's not like there wasn't hope for this song being a Beatles track either, as you can see in the Get Back documentary where John casually suggests lines to George for the verses and Harrison welcoming them in without hesitation. The band could still work well together, so we might have been able to see something like this flesh itself out later down the line.
