10 Perfect Beatles Songs From Their Solo Careers
2. Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney
Out of all of the Beatles' solo careers, Paul McCartney really got off to a bit of a shaky start. When the Fabs decided to paint him as the dictator of the band, Paul was heartbroken and poured a lot of his emotion into his music. While we saw the fruits of his labor on the album after this, McCartney gave us one last bulletproof single to kick off the '70s with Maybe I'm Amazed.
If you're looking at this like a Beatles track though, the pieces are all there. Since Paul did most of the recording for his solo album at his home recording studio, this is the only track on the album that was mixed and recorded in Abbey Road Studios, during the downtime when the band was still at odds with each other. And just like every great Paul ballad, it all comes back to his love of Linda.
Compared to the schmaltzy songs that we had gotten used to from Macca at the time, there isn't one piece of this song that needs to be improved in any capacity, from the delicate piano lines to Paul letting his bluesy vocal chops go off and building to one of the most melodic guitar solos that he would ever create. Wings may have eventually got this song off the ground, but when you listen to the original recording, you could just imagine what John's backing vocals could have sounded like.
