10 Perfect Britpop Albums Of The '90s

1. Parklife - Blur

When it comes to the gauntlet of Britpop, it just comes down to a toss up between Oasis and Blur. It's not like it wasn't stiff competition either, with the working class attitude of Oasis fueling the fire with their disdain towards Damon Albarn and co. Though Oasis managed to give their fans some of the catchiest hooks of the day, Blur may have actually won the Britpop war by hitting the nail on the head with Parklife.

Just like the normal sounds of Britpop, this is exactly the kind of quirky classic rock pastiche that you may have come to expect...but with a twist. Along with some sticky hooks from cover to cover, Parklife is acutely aware of just how meaningless society can feel like at times. In between the great songs about the wonders of Parklife, you'll also have songs like Tracy Jacks detailing a man's sanity breaking down or the sad acceptance of day to day life on End of a Century.

Out of all the other Britpop bands of the day, Blur seemed to be the only ones who weren't afraid to tell you what was really going on in Britain at the time. Things were definitely starting to look up, but that didn't everything was sunshine and roses all the time. In a way, Parklife isn't just an album. It's a reflection of the meaningless routines that we do every day but refuse to accept.
