10 Perfect Closing Songs In Rock History

5. Champagne Supernova - Oasis

The fact that Oasis managed to best their debut album Definitely Maybe is an anomaly in and of itself. The kind of hit power that came from that first record is something you only get once in a lifetime, let alone something that you're able to blow out of the water. In between the hits like Don't Look Back in Anger though, the Gallagher Brothers saved their greatest trick for the very end.

Being based primarily around one chord, Champagne Supernova is by far the most psychedelic song on What's the Story Morning Glory, putting you into a state of trance from the very start as Liam wonders where we were while they were getting high. Even if the concept of walking down the hall faster than a cannonball might not make sense, it's the exact kind of stoned phrase that makes perfect sense when heard in context.

The Gallaghers also managed to have some help on this track as well, bringing in Paul Weller to guest on guitar during the solo, giving the whole song a somewhat epic tone towards the very end. Considering the band's influences, this is probably the closest you could come to seeing a band like Slade try to write their equivalent of Stairway to Heaven. Though the Britpop bubble burst a few years after this song, this was a time to just kick back and soak up the victory.
