4. The Masterplan - Oasis
Noel Gallagher was never really a snob when it came to writing Oasis songs. Whenever you got a new Oasis single during the '90s, you would have B-sides that could have been a smash hit for any other band. These were never throwaways in the eyes of the Gallaghers though, and the Masterplan might be the greatest album that the band never technically made.
Put out during the dark ages after Be Here Now, The Masterplan assembles some of the greatest songs that Oasis had on the flipside of their singles. While there are some songs that feel more like B-sides like their version of I Am the Walrus or the instrumental The Swamp Song, every other track on the album feels like it could have turned up on Definitely Maybe or What's The Story?, whether it's the delicate acoustic sounds of Talk Tonight or the bombast that comes with the title track.
This one record also is a great representation for what the Oasis sound was throughout their '90s tenure, capturing the punk leaning side of things on Headshrinker and balancing it out with something like Going Nowhere, which takes all of the overblown aesthetics of Be Here Now and puts them in just the right context. Even though this version of Oasis was going to be left in the '90s once Bonehead and Guigsy left the band, this is the real snapshot that most Oasis fans should remember them for.
