10 Perfect Compilation Albums In Rock Music History
3. Reanimation - Linkin Park
When Linkin Park first broke onto the nu metal scene, they never seemed to fit in a neat box all that well. As much as their lyrics may have been in line with the pain and turmoil happening with most other metal bands, their use of different hip hop and electronic influences helped bridge the gap between hip hop fans and the metalheads. This wasn't just a gimmick either. With Reanimation, the guys had the actual chops to back that up.
Being a straightforward remix album, a lot of these songs have the same basic tracks of what turned up on Hybrid Theory, only with different guests on every one of the tracks. Though there are some inclusions that might seem a little bit dated these days like Aaron Lewis of Staind, the real strength of this record is showing just how deep the band's tastes went.
Along with some great guest verses from the likes of Black Thought of the Roots, this was a lot of metal fans' introductions to the more underground side of hip hop, bringing people like Kutmasta Kurt and Pharoahe Monch into the fold to warp something like In The End into a completely different song. Since these guys were already making the big bucks off of Hybrid Theory, this was more than a just a little side project. This was a chance for them to give back to the kind of artists that helped shape them back in the days when they were cutting their teeth.
