10 Perfect Folk Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

8. Bookends - Simon & Garfunkel (1968)

This is one of the great concept albums of the '60s. Bookends explores the trajectory of life from young to old, with devastating emotion. Save the Life of My Child kicks things off with a rumbling bass line written on a Moog synthesiser, an instrument unusual for folk music. But it served to augment the lyrics about an impoverished childhood.

No matter what age you are, the tale of adolescence in America will stir something inside you; whether it be a nostalgia for your lost youth, or an excitement for possibilities to come. Old Friends is the devastating tale of two men reaching the end of their lives as they reminisce about their past.

Then you have one of the greatest songs ever to be used in a movie soundtrack. Mrs. Robinson skyrocketed the duo to further acclaim after it was released. The Graduate told the story of a teacher, Mrs. Robinson, who famously seduces her student, played by Dustin Hoffman. But Paul Simon only named the track after the character when he found out he might have a shot at contributing a song to the move. The lyrics have little to do with the plot, but it's a great song regardless.
