10 Perfect Hard Rock & Metal Albums That Bands HATE
3. And Justice For All - Metallica
For most Metallica fans, the '80s were the prime time where everything seemed to turn to gold.
Even after losing a pivotal member of the band with Cliff Burton after a bus crash, And Justice For All saw them getting even heavier and making songs that bordered on prog rock with their different movements. It also isn't shocking though that this is the one record that pretty much everyone in the band wanted to do differently.
This isn't a case of wanting to redo it because of the lack of good songs. Some of the tracks on here like One and Harvester of Sorrow are some of the most savage assaults on the senses in the thrash metal genre. It's also not going to break very many hearts when yours truly says that the production on this album is absolutely garbage.
In an effort to haze Jason Newsted, all of the bass is turned down on here, which has made this entire album feel dated to the late '80s. Though it might have just been edgy at the time, all of these songs are aching for better low end and just end up sounding hollow compared to when they play them live.
As much as people stand by St. Anger is one of the worst things that Metallica ever did, a case can be made for this record to be on that same level from a production standpoint.
