10 Perfect Metal Albums With No Bad Songs

1. Master of Puppets - Metallica

So...there's no getting around some of the greatest metal releases of all time and not bring up thrash. At a time when the poodle haired boys on the Sunset Strip were making a name for themselves, something more interesting was going on on the other side of California, with bands that were playing as fast as possible and bringing even more darkness into the equation. Though any of the Big 4 would have you covered for great metal music, you can't find more concentrated badass than Master of Puppets.

After Metallica had become the poster children of the genre on the back of Kill Em All, things kept evolving into something beyond just thrash, with this album being their step into the big leagues. With most of these songs talking about the everyday dangers of the world, the musicianship is what to look out for on here, covering everything from ballads on Welcome Home Sanitarium to the some of the heaviest tracks imaginable like Disposable Heroes.

And the best songs on the album manage to do both at the exact same time, like the title track giving way to a slow epic solo from James Hetfield and Orion marking one of the finest bass performances by Cliff Burton and a testament to what can be done with just a couple of guitars and a whole bunch of emotion. Before this album, Metallica were already set to go down as one of the greatest metal bands of their generation. Once they had this under the belt though, there was no one on the scene who could touch them.
