10 Perfect Metal Albums With Only One Bad Song
8. Good Friends And A Bottle Of Pills - Pantera
Everyone who goes into a Pantera record knows that they're going to be in for an auditory beating. Ever since Cowboys From Hell, the band always had the goal of trying to outdo the last record that they made every single time. And while Far Beyond Driven may be their peak of heaviness, that doesn't mean things don't get a bit weird midway through the record.
Right after working your way through classics like 5 Minutes Alone and I'm Broken, here comes Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills, which almost feels more like an interlude track when compared to the rest of the record.
At only 2 minutes and some change, this is one of the few Pantera songs that is dark for all the wrong reasons, with Phil Anselmo bragging about being strung out and having sex with your girlfriend when you were knocked out.
Granted, it's not like the music is necessarily bad though, with most of it being some sort of ominous droning bit that could have worked well as a lead in for a great riff. When looked at against all the songs around it, this macho posturing thing has no reason to exist. The alpha dog kind of mentality may have worked back on the song Walk, but hearing lines like this is the reason why some people may have issues with Anselmo today.
