10 Perfect Non-Single Tracks By Eminem

3. Yellow Brick Road: Encore (2004)

In the late '80s Eminem made a tape entitled "Foolish Pride". The track not only demonstrated how truly terrible Em was at rapping during his teenage years, but it contained some pretty reprehensible lyrics. When it surfaced after Eminem made it big, it became a point of embarrassment. The content revolved around his animosity to a black girlfriend who broke things off with him. Em delivered a shabby tirade of racist abuse against her.

He was eager to make it known his teenage lyrics were born out of frustration at being dumped rather than holding any truly racists views. His responce was the brilliant "Yellow Brick Road".

The track hears Em recount his childhood experiences, growing up in a black neighbourhood. He references his adoption of black culture as a young white kid, going on to admit he was ignorant not to realise it might be seen as offensive. He then goes on to address the infamous tape directly with the line "But I've heard people say they heard the tape and it ain't that bad. But it was, I singled out a whole race. And for that I apologise, I was wrong."

Before engrossing myself in the written word, I spent several years in the TV and film industry. During this time I became proficient at picking things up, moving things and putting things down again.
