10 Perfect Rock Albums For Pop Music Fans

8. What's the Story Morning Glory - Oasis

When the alternative movement really started to kick in, it felt like you were being a lightweight if you tried to bring some poppiness into your sound. The '90s were about to get a lot more real, and the bubblegum fluff from the likes of Hanson felt like they would be out the door in a matter of weeks. A funny thing happened once grunge died down: rock and roll started to get happy all over again.

In the wake of the post Nirvana age of alternative, Oasis became the new kings of rock on the album What's the Story Morning Glory, delivering on every promise that the Gallaghers claimed on their first tour with Definitely Maybe. Looking to put themselves in the same conversation as the Beatles and the Stones, every track on here feels like a nod to the rock and roll of days gone by, almost like they were trying to bring back the '60s flavor of rock and roll into the modern age.

Aside from the overexposed and widely memed song Wonderwall, almost any song on here could have the potential to be a hit, even when they're getting a little nasty on songs like Morning Glory or going for arena sized bombast on the closer Champagne Supernova. Although the Gallaghers may have been confrontational in front of the camera, there's nothing cynical about any of the songs on this record. Rock and roll could get a bit rough at times, but if you stick around long enough, it can also be a ton of fun.
