10 Perfect Rock Albums Of The 2000s

8. Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not - Arctic Monkey (2006)

Look, Alex Turner has become one of the most obnoxious rock stars of the 21st century. But, regardless of what you might think of Turner, the Arctic Monkeys are unquestionably one of the best British rock bands to come out of the 2000s, and we in Britain have a proud history of brilliant bands fronted by total bell**ds. Morrissey and Liam Gallagher just two names who spring to mind.

This debut album had everything. Full of references about the awkwardness of adolescent, frustrated teenage angst, boozy confusion, and fake tan, it had all the energy of Sex Pistols but with the swagger of early Oasis. No doubt if you were off to university in the 2000s or early 2010s, you carried with you your sacred collection of, not yet obsolete, CDs, and this record was undoubtedly amongst them.

With so many guitar riffs that were instantly recognisable, like I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor, it's no wonder that anyone within ear shot instantly broke into some kind of air-guitar homage, while frantically whipping their hair into a frenzy.

Whether your were at an indie night, a music festival, or just drinking cider in the park, this album was sure to make an appearance.
