10 Perfect Rock Albums Of The '70s
6. The Clash - The Clash
Up until the mid '70s, the rock scene could only be described as larger than life. Make no mistake, these were people that were born to rock and had to have some sort of magic sprinkled upon them in order to actually make their gifts of melody happen. That didn't leave much room for the little guy though...until the Clash came along.
Although many people point to something like the Ramones' self titled as the first true punk album, the Clash's debut sticks out much more in hindsight. For starters, this was one of the first punk records to be openly political. Yeah, the Sex Pistols may have taken a few shots at the monarchy on God Save the Queen, but these were lads that were disenfranchised and wanting to rebel against everything, from the anger of White Riot to even getting angry at the concept of music industry policies on Complete Control.
Aside from the great playing, this was the moment where thousands of kids figured out that they wanted to play guitars of their own. Since these guys looked like you and were singing about stuff that you could relate to, why not try to write songs yourself and live the life of a punk? This wasn't just a regular punk record...this was a call to arms for the punk masses.
