10 Perfect Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

9. Master of Puppets - Metallica

Anyone even mildly curious in the heavier side of rock tends to think of metal as a mixed bag. Even though there are acts like Black Sabbath who can make bangers until the day they die, you can usually only stomach so much heaviness at a time before turning the dial to something more palatable. Every now and again though, you get the album that manages to blur the boundaries of what heavy can do.

Written right as Metallica were about to become cult legends, Master of Puppets is one of the most solid track listings you'll ever find in metal. And that's saying a lot considering the length of these songs. While the actual time stamps of 5 to 8 minute songs might sound daunting, they manage to become mini odysseys for metal, from the drug hell coming out of the title track to the inner torture found on Welcome Home Sanitarium.

Even for an album that has an 8 minute instrumental in Orion, it's still one of the best metal tracks you'll ever come across, featuring an amazing bass performance from Cliff Burton that takes you on a journey without ever needing lyrics. While some of their equals like Slayer and Megadeth have their own thrash classics under their belt, Master of Puppets is the kind of album that a genre only gets once.
