10 Perfect Rock Music Songs That Were Inspired By The Beatles
4. Big Me - Foo Fighters
Dave Grohl has always been emphatic that he wouldn't be the musician he is today if not for the Beatles' music touching him at a young age. While most of his favorite bands over the years have involved some of the grimiest punk bands in the DC hardcore scene, Dave's origins as a songwriter was the first time he got a guitar and had a Beatles songbook in front of him, analyzing the chords and always paying attention to the melody. And while the Foo Fighters already had their own sound from their first record, Big Me is a slice of pop perfection with a few Fab touches.
Although the song is practically over before it gets started at just over 2 minutes, there isn't one note out of place here, with Grohl sticking to the bare basics for what a good pop song should be, only playing a handful of chords and letting his melody do the talking for him a lot of the time. In fact, it might be a little too on the nose here, with Grohl eventually making the Mentos-inspired commercial because of just how damn happy this song sounds in context, which backfired when they suddenly had Mentos thrown at them during shows that wasn't too different than when the Beatles got Jelly Babies rained on them back in the day.
Regardless of the candy influenced injuries though, this is one of the poppiest Foo Fighters songs ever written, and is all the better for it. The writing credits might say Dave Grohl, but the jovial sound of this track has Paul McCartney's fingerprints all over it.
