10 Perfect Rock Singles Of The 2000s

5. Red Hot Chili Peppers: Dani California (2006)

While the 2000s were filled with fresh-faced, new acts making their mark on the world of music, a number of veteran rockers were still churning out the good stuff. Although they were almost twenty years into their career at this point, the Chili Peppers really hit their stride in the new century. Californication (1999) saw the return of John Fruciante on the guitar, kick starting a new period for the group.

With the release of By The Way (2002) they developed a more melodic and refined style. But, the behemoth double album, Stadium Arcadium (2006), was the high water mark of their career. It was a record that encompassed every style and genre the group had played with over the previous 20 years. You had pure funk numbers, post-punk jams, metal-inspired tracks and tender ballads.

Singles like Snow (Hey Oh), Desecration Smile, and Tell Me Baby gave a taste of the varied styles the Chilis were exploring, but the lead single Dani California was the jewel in the crown. It had a Lynyrd Skynyrd-esque swing to the verse, augmented by funky guitar licks; the chorus harkened back to the heavier sound of Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and the multi-layered guitar solo was the perfect closer.
