10 Perfect Rock Singles Released In Summer

7. Sam Fender: Seventeen Going Under (2021)

Over the last few years Sam Fender has fast become the new face of British rock. His influences are obvious. There's a healthy dose of American heartland rock in the mix, with Bruce Springsteen being a named favourite of his, but his sound is most definitely his own. He bares resemblance to the greats of the past without making the mistake of mimicking them - helped in no small part by his distinct Northern accent.

Last summer Fender released the lead single from his second studio album. The letter to his seventeen year old self explores the turmoil and confusion he felt during his teens. His distinct style of story telling conjures up emotive images of his lived experiences, while also allowing for the track be interpreted differently, depending on the experiences of the listener.

After his first album, this guy showed promise, but he could have easily gone the route of James Bay, who drifted into obscurity after a string of hits. With his last record, Fender proved the hype was warranted.
