10 Perfect Rock Singles Released In Summer

8. Oasis: Live Forever (1994)

During the early '90s the biggest thing in rock was grunge. The Seattle sound had been born out of a need to kill off the vacuous trend that dominated the '80s. With the advent of grunge, hair metal was all but dismissed as an embarrassing memory in rock's history, but sure enough it was only a matter of time before grunge would be supplanted by a more carefree and aspirational sound.

"Live Forever" was the song that helped secure Oasis a record deal. It went on to be released as the third single from the Manchester group's debut record. It was Britpop's more idealistic answer to the oppressive themes coming out of the grunge movement in America.

Despite the song's laidback tone, the lyrics are an optimistic expression of overcoming life's obstacles. Originally inspired by the melody from the Rolling Stones' "Shine a Light", it takes on a sound far more reminiscent of Noel Gallagher's other musical love John Lennon.

This is the perfect track for batting off the winter blues and welcoming in the summer.
