10 Perfect Rock Singles Released In Summer
4. Arctic Monkeys: Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? (2013)
Arctic Monkeys' fifth studio album transformed them from the indie darlings of the British rock scene to international big hitters. Gone were the mod hair cuts, the plimsoles and the raucous, dance-inducing, garage rock melodies. The group adopted fresh new hair cuts, leather jackets and a refined swagger. Rooted by hip hop inspired drum beats, and under the guidance of Josh Homme, the group developed a slower, sleazier sound with hints of psychedelia and desert rock thrown into the mix. AM was one slick album.
Spearheaded by three massive singles "R U Mine?", "Do I Wanna Know?" and "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" the record dropped at the tale end of the summer. By the time we finally got the album, the latter single had landed the group their first top ten hit since 2007's "Fluorescent Adolescent".
The group have released just one album since AM, and although it contains a handful of enjoyable tracks, they've not managed to recapture the same fever inspired by "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?".
