10 Perfect Rock Songs That Divided Rock Bands

1. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

There are thousands of artists throughout the history of rock who have tried (and failed) to live up to the legacy of something like Stairway to Heaven. Compared to the other rock music that was coming out around the same time, Led Zeppelin's 8 minute epic feels more like being taken on a journey with song rather than an actual piece of rock and roll music. On the other hand though, it turns out that Robert Plant has heard better.

When combing through Zeppelin's back catalog, Plant was never eager to revisit Stairway, saying that he had started to distance himself from the song once touring for the album had wrapped up. This isn't just some backhanded compliment to having heard it a million times. As he grows older, Plant has seemed to grow even more bitter towards his masterpiece, saying that he would break out in hives if he had to perform it again.

It's not like he hates having created the song though. In fact, Plant has said that he had a lot of fun writing it, saying that the lyrics were practically writing themselves by the time that he had gotten the finished piece of music from Jimmy Page. Whereas millions of fans consider this one of the greatest songs to come from the rock pantheon, this is probably the reason why Zeppelin would never reunite for the longest time.
