10 Perfect Rock Songs That Divided Rock Bands

8. Victim of Love - Eagles

When the Eagles got around to making Hotel California, they knew they needed to come out with something good. Since their last few records had sold like gangbusters, the follow up needed to either be the peak of their powers or would be the record that made them fall flat on their faces. Even though they knew they had to come up with perfection, that doesn't mean that everyone's happy with the end result.

According to Don Felder, he was promised the opportunity to sing the lead vocal on one of the songs on Hotel California, and had written Victim of Love specifically to be his showcase. If you know anything about rock and roll, promises don't mean a thing when your career is on the line. While the band eventually went through with recording the track, they actually had some more business to attend to.

After the sessions wrapped, their manager was advised to take Felder out to dinner, when in reality the rest of the band were going to stay behind and cut the entire song again with Don Henley taking the lead vocal. Compared to the other dust ups going on in the Eagles' world, this was the start of things getting really ugly. No matter how many times they had to play it live, this was always going to be the song that Felder wasn't good enough to sing.
