10 Perfect Rock Songs That Don't Have Any Lyrics

6. Double Bass - Gorillaz

Okay, but this is the one that seems to draw the line, right? Since Gorillaz were always supposed to be an animated side project, how the hell are you supposed to get people hooked in the storyline of these characters when you don't even have words? This was around the time that we were figuring out what Gorillaz could be, and Double Bass is the sound of pure vibes on their debut record.

In the lore of the Gorillaz universe, this is apparently the result of hooking up a musical machine to the band's brain waves, which makes for one of the most chilled out sequences on the record. While you could technically call this an interlude, it's a bit of a departure, being the length of a full song and sounding like you're being taken on a journey through the cartoon world.

This was also around the time that Damon Albarn was toying some alternative soundscapes, and hearing this dance style production of the track is a breath of fresh air, with the piano part leading the way and sounding like something that the band Air may have created just a few years earlier. When you look at this one track, you can practically picture yourself in that rundown Jeep that Murdoc is driving, heading to Gorillaz HQ and getting ready to cut a track. It might be a bit ominous, but it makes for one hell of a ride when you get to the end.
