10 Perfect Rock Songs That Were Inspired From Another Band

6. The Bitter End - Sum 41

As much as they are indebted to pop punk, Sum 41 were always upfront about their love for the old school hard rock and metal. I mean, you don't make a song that name checks Maiden and Priest like Fatlip and not have the actual chops to back it up. So when it came time to combine their sound with the sounds of metal, they were going to give it their all.

Landing right in the middle of Chuck, The Bitter End is a direct homage to Metallica, but which song does it knock off? Well... all of them. From one line to the next, this honestly feels like Derick Whibley tried his best to write something that would have been worthy of the thrash titans during the years of Master of Puppets, with the actual title having the same percussive accents of a song like Battery.

There are also little lead breaks that are very reminiscent of the flashy runs that Kirk Hammett would do, albeit with a little less wah than what Kirk would have done at the time. It's also kind of funny that during the time when Sum 41 was making the most blatant tribute to Metallica, Metallica barely sounded anything like themselves, going for a more raw sound on their album St. Anger. If James Hetfield wanted to get back to his roots though, it might not be the worst idea to take a few hints from the new school of players.
